Dr. Miguel Cortel-LeBlanc is a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) certified specialist in emergency medicine with a clinical and academic focus in neurological emergencies.
He works full-time in the emergency department, part-time in critical care, and additionally works in a concussion centre with a practice devoted to caring for patients with concussion and head/brain injury. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and Clinician Researcher at the Institut du Savoir Montfort. He is actively involved in the education of emergency medicine trainees and continuing medical education for attending physicians, delivering invited talks, teaching residents, developing curricula, and having served as the “Neurological Emergencies” instructor lead at the National Review Course for the RCPSC specialist emergency medicine trainees. He has held formal roles conducting critical incident reviews at the hospital level, and authored clinical hospital policies.
He completed a Bachelor of Science (Physiology) at the University of Ottawa, a Master of Health Administration at Dalhousie University, and a Doctorate of Medicine at McMaster of University. He completed his residency specialization in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and obtained a Certificate of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (C-QuIPS). He is also a certified medicolegal expert (CMLE) through the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators.
